Heading 2. RELATIVE PRONOUNS
Heading 2. RELATIVE PRONOUNS

जो Pronoun दो वाक्यों को जोड़ने का कार्य करे और उसका antecedent (पूर्ववर्ती) भी हो, वह Relative Pronoun कहलाता है। Relative Pronouns वाक्य अथवा वाक्य के अंशों को Conjunction की भाँति जोड़ते हैं इसलिए इन्हें 'Conjunctive Pronoun' भी कहा जाता है।

अंग्रेजी में Who, Which, Whose, Whom तथा That मुख्य Relative Pronoun हैं।

प्रश्न-पत्र में Relative Pronoun से सम्बन्धित प्रश्न दो प्रकार से पूछे जा सकते हैं; या तो प्रश्न रिक्त स्थान वाला हो सकता है अथवा दो वाक्यों को जोड़ने वाला हो सकता है।

मुख्य Relative Pronoun एवं उनका उपयोग निम्न प्रकार किया जाता है—

Use of WHO
Use of WHO

अर्थ—Relative Pronoun के रूप में who का अर्थ है—जो अथवा जिसने।

नियम—Who के प्रयोग के प्रमुख नियम निम्नलिखित हैं—

  1. Who (whose, whom)

दिये हुए रिक्त-स्थान के पहले कोई Noun (जैसे–Ram, Sita, My brother, Your sister..............) अथवा कोई Pronoun (जैसे-I, we, he, she.........) अवश्य होना चाहिए। रिक्त-स्थान के बाद कोई helping verb (जैसे-is, are, am, was, were, has, have ............) अथवा मुख्य verb अवश्य होना चाहिए।

Examples :

Q. 1. The woman \dots\dots\dots\dots\dots\dots came in this hospital, is a patient.

Ans. who.

‘Who’ द्वारा वाक्यों को जोड़ना—

Q. 1. This is the student. The student won the prize.

Ans. This is the student who won the prize.

Use of WHICH

Preposition (in, for, about\text{in, for, about} \dots \dots \dots) के बाद रिक्त-स्थान हो, तो प्रायः which आता है।

Examples :

Q. 1. I purchased a house \dots \dots \dots \dots \dots was built last year, fell down.

Ans. which

Q. 1. This is the goat. The goat dances beautifully.

Use of WHOSE

अर्थ—Relative Pronoun के रूप में Whose का अर्थ है-जिसका, जिसकी। whose का प्रयोग व्यक्तियों के लिए होता है, जानवरों व वस्तुओं के लिए प्रायः नहीं होता है।

रिक्त-स्थान में Whose भरना
रिक्त स्थान के पहले कोई Pronoun (I,we,you,he,she,theyI, we, you, he, she, they) अथवा (my brother,your sister,his friendmy\ brother, your\ sister, his\ friend \dots \dots \dots) आदि होता है, अथवा किसी व्यक्ति का

नाम (जैसे Ram, Sita) अथवा व्यक्तिवाचक संज्ञा (जैसे teacher, doctor, boy, girl, student, man\text{man}\dots \dots \dots) होती है।

Use of THAT

अर्थ—Relative Pronoun के रूप में that का अर्थ है-जो, जो कि

(2) which का प्रयोग सामान्यतः वस्तुओं व जानवरों के लिए किया जाता है।
(3) that (जो अथवा जो कि) का प्रयोग व्यक्तियों, वस्तुओं तथा जानवरों-सभी के लिए किया जाता है।
