Question 1.

One Sunday afternoon the author first smells something strange. Then he notices smoke pouring in through the seams of the ceiling. Soon the smoke fills the room and makes it difficult for them to see. He and his mother grope their way through the front door and run into the front yard.

The mother runs back into the house and comes out with a box full of important documents. She drops the box on the lawn. She runs in the house frantically, perhaps, to get the pictures and letters, the only memory of her dead husband. The author calls her back but she does not listen. She is caught in the flames. A fireman brings her out.

Answer:
Burning of the House and the Help Given Once, two of my classmates/schoolmates had an experience like the one described in the story where they needed help. They were helped by giving pleasant surprise. I read in Creative Hight School, Sukhrampur. Two of my classmates who were brothers had a day when their house was on fire.

They lost their ailing father. They were profoundly grieved. They lost interest in life. My parents being wealthy got them built a modern house. The School Welfare Association promised them free higher education. The Resident Welfare Association furnished their house. I gave them a kitten to play with. They were now very happy.
