Answer:
(i) The play raises various serious issues. It shows the pitiable condition of a mother during the 1950s. Women are subordinated by their husbands and children. They are treated like slaves. They have to do all the household work. They are always dancing to the tunes of their husbands and children. They cannot enjoy themselves.
नाटक कई गम्भीर मुद्दों को उठाता है। यह 1950 के दशक में एक माँ की दयनीय स्थिति को दर्शाता है। महिलाओं को उनके पतियों तथा बच्चों के द्वारा अपने अधीन (माना जाता है) कर लिया जाता है। उनके साथ दासों की तरह व्यवहार किया जाता है। उन्हें घर का सारा काम करना पड़ता है। वे हमेशा अपने पति तथा बच्चों के इशारों पर नाचती रहती हैं। वे स्वयं को आनन्दित भी नहीं कर सकतीं।
(ii) This play raises genuine problems. It resolves these issues as well. Women have to assert themselves to set their egoistic husbands and spoilt children. They have to be the mistresses of their home. I fully agree with this resolution.
यह नाटक वास्तविक समस्याओं को उठाता है। यह इन मुद्दों का समाधान भी करता है। महिलाओं को अपने अहंकारी पति तथा लाड़-प्यार में बिगड़े बच्चों को ठीक करने के लिए स्वयं की शक्ति को पहचानना होगा (दृढ़तापूर्वक व्यवहार करना होगा)। उन्हें अपने घर की मालकिन बनना होगा। मैं इस समाधान से पूर्णतः सहमत हूँ।

Answer:
The problems raised in this play regarding the position of a mother in the family, her tireless working, her remaining at home while the others enjoy themselves outside home are relevant. In modern society there are families where women have still not got their due position in the family.
इस नाटक में परिवार में एक माँ की स्थिति को लेकर, उसके बिना थके कार्य करते रहने की प्रवृत्ति, उसका घर पर ही रहना जबकि घर के अन्य सदस्य स्वयं को आनन्दित करने के लिए घर से बाहर जाते हैं – (इन सब) को लेकर जो समस्याएँ उठाई गई हैं वे प्रासंगिक हैं। आधुनिक समाज में ऐसे परिवार भी हैं जहाँ महिलाओं को परिवार में उचित स्थान नहीं मिल पाया है।

Yes, drama is a good medium for conveying social message. Its message is that women must fight for their rights. All family members are equally important. Husbands must not ignore their wives; and children, their mothers. This message has well been conveyed in the end of the drama when all are ready to serve her and listen to Mrs Pearson

Her husband and children treat her like a servant, Her children want her to prepare everything for them. Her excessive love and care has spoilt them. Her husband wants his wife to keep the tea ready even though he does not need it. She herself is responsible for her predicament.
श्रीमती पियरसन एक सुहावनी किन्तु चिन्तित सी दिखने वाली महिला है। वह स्वभाव से नि:स्वार्थ तथा व्यवहार में विनम्र है। वह दब्बू तथा परेशान सी रहती है। उसके पति तथा बच्चे उसके साथ नौकरानी का सा बर्ताव करते हैं।

George Pearson got angry and bitter when he saw his wife drinking stout. Seeing that no tea was prepared for him, he lost his temper. When Mrs Pearson told him that he was laughing stock at the club where people called him Pompy-Ompy Pearson, he became mentally disturbed. He also took ill when his wife advised him not to visit the club frequently.

Mrs Pearson and Mrs Fitzgerald are neighbours to each other. Mrs Pearson is overburdened with her household duties. She is worried by the behaviour of her children and husband towards her. On the other hand, Mrs Fitzgerald is dominant lady in her home.
When she visits Mrs Pearson, she knows that she does all the household work for her family members, still they ignored her. She advises Mrs Pearson to be bold enough to set herself free from that situation. Mrs Pearson’s voice is light whereas that of Mrs Fitzgerald’s is deep. Mrs. Person is timid while Mrs. Fitzgerald strong.

Answer:
‘Mother’s Day’ is a comedy in its real sense. Mrs Pearson is a lady of very calm nature. She obeys her family members. But when she changes personality with her neighbour, Mrs Fitzgerald, begins to smoke. She drinks stout before George, which makes him puzzled to see it.
To make fun of her husband, she reminds him of how people laugh at him at the club by calling Pompy-Ompy Pearson. Earlier a lady of gentle nature, now Mrs Pearson dominates Doris and Cyril to do work for themselves. Those who once dominate her are dominated by her in the end of the play.

Answer:
Cyril and Doris knew their mother as a lady of simple and gentle nature who did all their household work. But today they found their mother smoking, drinking and playing cards. She became dominating. Like previous occasions, Cyril ordered for tea but she ignored him, When Doris asked her mother if she had ironed her yellow dress, she flatly refused to do so. Having observed all these changes in her behaviour, they reached to the conclusion that she had become mad.
सिरिल तथा डोरिस अपनी माँ को साधारण व विनम्र स्वभाव वाली महिला के रूप में जानते थे जो कि उनका सारा घरेलू कार्य करती थी। परन्तु आज उनकी माँ धूम्रपान कर रही, शराब पी रही तथा ताश खेल रही थी। वह दबंग बन गयी थी। पहले अवसरों की तरह, सिरिल ने चाय का आदेश दिया परन्तु उसने उसकी बात पर ध्यान नहीं दिया।
जब डोरिस ने अपनी माँ से पूछा कि क्या उसने उसके रेशमी वस्त्रों पर इस्त्री कर दी है, श्रीमती पियरसन ने सीधा जबाव दिया कि वह नहीं करेगी। इन सारे परिवर्तनों को देखकर वे इस निष्कर्ष पर पहुँचे कि वह थोड़ी पागल हो गयी है।

Answer:
The play conveys a powerful message to the society that exploitation of housewives and
curtailing their freedom is in no way a fair practice. The play presents the plight of a mother and wife through the main character Mrs Pearson. Her children and husband exploit her. She remains busy doing the household work for them.
By getting the personalities of the two women Mrs Pearson and Mrs Fitzgerald changed, the son, daughter and husband are set right. She compells them to obey her. All members support her. Thus, the dramatist succeeds in his appeal to the society to give due respect to mothers and keep up their dignity in the society.
यह नाटक समाज को एक शक्तिशाली सन्देश देता है कि पत्नियों का शोषण तथा उनकी स्वतंत्रता पर अंकुश लगाना अनुचित कार्य है। नाटक के मुख्य पात्र श्रीमती पियरसन के माध्यम से एक माँ तथा पत्नी की दशा को प्रस्तुत किया गया है। उसके बच्चे तथा उसका पति उसका शोषण करते हैं।
वह उनके लिए घर का काम करने में ही लगी रहती है। दोनों महिलाओं श्रीमती पियरसन तथा श्रीमती फिट्जिरॉल्ड के व्यक्तित्वों के परिवर्तनों को पाकर पुत्र, पुत्री तथा पति ठीक हो जाते हैं। वह उन्हें अपनी आज्ञा मनवाने को बाध्य कर देती है। सभी सदस्य उसकी सहायता करते हैं। इस प्रकार नाटककार समाज में महिलाओं को उनका उचित सम्मान दिलाने तथा उनकी मर्यादा को बनाये रखने के लिए सन्देश देने में सफल हो जाता है।
