Why do the courtiers call the Prince ‘The Happy Prince’? Is he really happy? What does he see all around him?
दरबारी राजकुमार को ‘हैप्पी प्रिंस’ क्यों कहते हैं? क्या वह सचमुच खुश है? वह अपने चारों ओर क्या देखता है?
Answer: 
The courtiers call the Prince “The Happy Prince’ because all his life he never knew sorrow and tears and lived in the Palace.No, he isn’t really happy. He is now dead. His people installed his statue on a tall column. He sees ugliness and misery of the city from there.

दरबारी, राजकुमार को ‘हैप्पी प्रिंस’ इसलिए कहते हैं क्योंकि उसने जीवन भर दुःख व अश्रुओं को नहीं देखा और राजमहल में रहा। नहीं, वह यथार्थ में प्रसन्न नहीं है। वह अब मृत है। उसके लोगों ने एक ऊँचे स्तम्भ पर उसकी प्रतिमा स्थापित कर दी। वह वहाँ से बाहर की कुरूपता व दुःख देखता है।

Why does the Happy Prince send a ruby for the seamstress? What does the swallow do in the seamstress’ house?
राजकुमार दर्जिन को रूबी क्यों भेजता है अबाबील दर्जिन के घर क्या भेजता?
Answer: 
The Prince sends a ruby for the seamstress because she is poor. Her little son has fever but he asks his mother to give him oranges. Mother has nothing but river water so he is crying. The swallow hops in the seamstress’ house and places the great ruby on the table beside the woman’s thimble. Then he flies gently round the bed, fanning the boy’s forehead with his wings.

राजकुमार, दरजिन के लिए एक लालमणि भेजता है क्योंकि वह गरीब है। उसके छोटे बालक को ज्वर है लेकिन वह अपनी माँ से संतरे देने को कहता है। माँ के पास नदी जल के सिवा कुछ नहीं है इसलिए वह चिल्ला रहा है।
अबाबील, दरजिन के घर में प्रवेश करता है और उस औरत के अंगुरता की बगल में मेज पर उस बहुमूल्य लालमणि को रख देता है। फिर वह बालक के बिस्तर के चारों ओर उड़कर उसके सिर पर अपने पंखों से हवा करता है।

For whom does the Prince send the sapphires and why? 
राजकुमार, नीलम किसके लिए भेजता है और क्यों?
Answer: 
The Prince sends the first sapphire to a playwright because he can not complete his play due to hunger and cold. Sapphire enables him to buy food and firewood and to complete his play. The Prince sends the second sapphire to a matchgirl whose matchboxes fell into a gutter.

Her father will beat if she goes without any money. She is crying. She is without shoes and stockings. The swallow slips the jewel into her palm. She runs home laughing.

राजकुमार प्रथम नीलमणि एक नाट्यलेखक को भेजता है क्योंकि वह भूख व शीत से अपने नाटक को पूर्ण नहीं कर सकता है। नीलमणि से भोजन व ईंधन खरीदता है और अपना नाटक पूर्ण करता है। राजकुमार, दूसरी नीलमणि एक माचिस विक्रेता लड़की को भेजता है जिसकी सभी माचिसें एक गटर में गिर गई थीं। उसका पिता पिटाई करेगा यदि वह बिना धनराशि के जायेगी। वह रो रही है। उसके पास जूतेजुराब भी नहीं हैं। अबाबील उसकी हथेली में उस हीरे को रख देता है। वह हँसती हुई घर दौड़ जाती है।

What does the swallow see when it flies over the city? 
जब अबाबील शहर के ऊपर उड़ता है तो वह क्या देखता है?
Answer: 
He sees the rich making merry in their beautiful houses while the beggars are sitting at the gates. He flies into dark lanes and sees the white faces of starving children looking out listlessly at the black streets. Under the archway of a bridge two little boys are lying in each other’s arms to try to keep themselves warm.

भिखारी बैठे हैं। वह अंधेरी सड़कों पर उड़ता है और भूखे बच्चों के सफेद पड़े चेहरों को देखता है जो निरुत्साह से काली गलियों की ओर देख रहे हैं। पुल के मेहराब वाले द्वार के नीचे दो छोटे बालक एक-दूसरे की बाँहों में अपने को कुछ गर्म रखने का प्रयास करते हुए लेटे हैं।

Why did the swallow not leave the Prince and go to Egypt? 
अबाबील, राजकुमार को छोड़कर मिस्त्र क्यों नहीं गया?
Answer: 
The swallow did not leave the Prince and go to Egypt because he had fallen in love with the Prince. He, by his possessions, tried to wipe the tears and minimise the miseries of the poor. The swallow learnt the value of sacrifices. He laid his life for a noble cause.

अबाबील, राजकुमार को छोड़कर मिस्त्र नहीं गया क्योंकि वह राजकुमार से प्रेम करने लगा था। उसने (राजकुमार ने), अपनी चीजों द्वारा, गरीबों के आंसुओं को पोंछने व दुःखों को कम करने का प्रयास किया। अबाबील ने त्याग की कीमत सीखी। उसने एक अच्छे उद्देश्य के लिए अपना जीवन दे दिया।

What are the precious things mentioned in the story? Why are they precious?
इस कहानी में कौनसी कीमती चीजों का जिक्र किया गया है? वे कीमती क्यों हैं?
Answer: 
The precious things mentioned in the story are – the leaden heart of the Happy Prince and the dead bird. They are precious because both try to wipe the tears and lessen the misery of the poor. Both sacrificed their lives for a Godly cause.

कहानी में जिक्र की गई कीमती वस्तुएँ हैं…हैप्पी प्रिंस का शीशे का दिल व मृत पक्षी। वे कीमती हैं क्योंकि दोनों गरीबों के आंसू पोंछने व दुःख कम करने का प्रयास करते हैं। दोनों ने ईश्वरीय कार्य के लिए जीवन त्याग दिया।

Answer:
An Act of Kindness Last year, in winter season, I was going to school. Suddenly, I saw an old and blind person. He was trying to cross the road. I, at once, went to him. I, respectfully, asked about his desire. He told me that he wanted to cross the road. I offered my services to him. He was ready. There was much rush on the road. Nevertheless, I had him cross the road. He blessed me profusely. I was very happy.

दयालुता का एक कार्य गत वर्ष, सर्द ऋतु में, मैं विद्यालय जा रहा था। अचानक मैंने एक वृद्ध व अन्धे व्यक्ति को देखा । वह सड़क पार करने का प्रयास कर रहा था। मैं, तुरन्त उसके पास गया। मैंने, सादर, उसकी इच्छा के बारे में पूछा। उसने मुझे बताया कि वह सड़क पार करना चाहता था। मैंने उसे अपनी सेवाएं देने का प्रस्ताव रखा। वह तैयार था। सड़क पर बहुत भीड़ थी। फिर भी मैंने उसे सड़क पार करा दी। उसने मुझे बहुत आशीर्वाद दिया। मैं बहुत प्रसन्न था।

Answer: 
The swallow decides to spend the night between the feet of the statue of the Happy Prince. He decides so because it is a fine position with plenty of fresh air. And he has a golden bed-room.

अबाबील, हैप्पी प्रिन्स की प्रतिमा के पैरों के बीच रात्रि व्यतीत करने का निश्चय करता है। वह ऐसा विनिश्चय इसलिए करता है क्योंकि ताजा वायु के लिए यह एक उत्तम स्थान है। और उसके पास स्वर्ण शयनकक्ष है।

Answer:
The swallow thinks of shifting to a chimney pot because he is quite drenched under the statue by the falling large drops. He thinks that there is no use of a statue if it can’t keep the rain off.

अबाबील एक चिमनी पॉट के नीचे जाने की सोचता है क्योंकि प्रतिमा के नीचे, गिरती हुई बड़ी बूंदों द्वारा उसे काफी भिगो दिया जाता है। वह विचार करता है कि यदि प्रतिमा वर्षा से रक्षा नहीं कर सकती है तो इसका कोई उपयोग नहीं है।

Answer:
The Happy Prince has no choice but weep because now he is dead. He is a statue on a tall column. Now he can see the ugliness and the misery of the city. His feet are fastened to a pedestal. He can’t move.
हैप्पी प्रिंस के पास रोने के अतिरिक्त कोई विकल्प नहीं है क्योंकि अब वह मृत है। वह एक ऊँचे स्तंभ पर एक प्रतिमा है। अब वह शहर की कुरूपता व दुःख देख सकता है। उसके पैर आधार स्तंभ से बंधे हैं। वह हिल भी नहीं सकता है।

Answer:
The swallow doesn’t leave the Happy Prince because after sacrificing his both the eyes, he is blind and helpless. Moreover, he has fallen in love with him because of his noble acts.

अबाबील, हैप्पी प्रिंस को छोड़कर नहीं जाता है क्योंकि अपनी दोनों आँखों का बलिदान करने के उपरान्त वह (प्रिंस) अंधा व असहाय हो गया है। और, अबाबील, प्रिंस के उत्तम कार्यों के कारण उससे प्यार करने लगा है।

Answer:
The statue of the Happy Prince is pulled down because its ruby has fallen, eyes have gone and it is no longer golden. It is little better than a beggar. And a dead bird is at its feet.

हैप्पी प्रिंस की प्रतिमा को हटा दिया जाता है क्योंकि इसकी लालमणि गिर चुकी है, आँखें जा चुकी हैं और यह अब गोल्डन भी नहीं है। यह भिखारी से भी बुरी है। और एक मृत पक्षी इसके पैरों के पास है।

Answer:
High above the city, on a tall column, stood the statue of the Happy Prince. He was gilded, all over with thin leaves of fine gold, for eyes he had two sapphires, and a large red ruby glowed on his sword hilt.

नगर के एक भाग में ऊँचे स्तम्भ पर हैप्पी प्रिंस की मूर्ति स्थापित थी। उसके सम्पूर्ण शरीर पर सोने का पत्तर चढ़ा हुआ था तथा उसकी आँखों के स्थान पर दो चमकती नीलमणियाँ थीं, तथा उसकी तलवार की मूठ पर एक बड़ी-सी लालमणि चमक रही थी।
