कठिन शब्दार्थ-harbour (हाब(र)) = बन्दरगाह । on haunches (ऑन् हॉन्चिज्) = घुटने मोड़कर बैठना।
हिन्दी अनुवाद-कवि कहता है कि धुंध छोटी बिल्ली के कदमों पर आती है (अर्थात् वह बिल्ली के जैसे दबे पाँव आती है)। वह घुटने मोड़कर बैठकर बन्दरगाह व शहर को निहारती है (अर्थात् वह बन्दरगाह व शहर पर छा जाती है) और फिर आगे बढ़/फैल जाती है।
भावार्थ-कवि धुंध जैसी निर्जीव मौसमी गतिविधि को बिल्ली जैसे सजीव प्राणी से तुलना करके जीवन्त बना देता है। कवि एक सुन्दर प्राकृतिक दृश्य उत्पन्न करता है।

एक बिल्ली शान्ति से आती और जाती है। धुंध भी बन्दरगाह और शहर को चुपचाप ढक लेती है और उसी प्रकार से गायब हो जाती है।
